(KMHT Radio, Marshall) The Waskom Police Department is investigating the death of a 47-year-old Waskom man, found dead on Monday, January 2, by a family member.

“A family member found him with a knife embedded in his chest, but he was lying on the knife. He lived alone, and had socks on, the floor to the home is slippery, so it’s very possible he was working on something and using the knife and just slipped and fell on it,” said Waskom Police Chief Westy Meisenhemier. “We’ve interviewed everyone we could and are waiting on an autopsy report to help us determine which way to go with this, but it is very possible he fell and impaled himself with the knife.”

Justice of the Peace Megan Pinson was called to the scene, where she pronounced the man deceased, and ordered an autopsy be performed at Tyler’s Southeast Texas Forensic Center. An autopsy is expected to be performed today.

The name of the deceased has not been released.
