The Federal Aviation Administration is now investigating a plane crash that occurred in Nacogdoches County on Wednesday evening.

According to Texas DPS spokeswoman Stephanie Davis, the crash happened around 4 p.m. in a wooded area on Terry Crawford Road. Preliminary reports indicate that a 1981 Mooney aircraft was attempting to land at the Nacogdoches County airport, located just off of State Highway 7.

According to the pilot, 63-year-old Donald Irby of Sugarland, the engine lost power as he was making his final pass before landing. Irby was able to land the plane in a wooded area away from any structures.

He was treated on scene for minor injuries. Davis says Irby was the only person inside the plane at the time of the crash.
